Hiya Doggers!
I'm back from my cross-country skiing vacation at Silver Star. This year it was colder than I remember, but I was just a puppy when I was there last winter.
The first day it snowed lots and lots. My monkey and I climbed up a ski hill that evening in the dark, threw snowballs and chased snowflakes. In some places, the wind had blown the snow much deeper than I thought it was and I ended up sinking up to my ears! Brrrrr... shake, shake, shake.
The best part of my trip was being allowed to join my monkey skiing in the mornings. There is a trail there that doggers can use, and early in the morning it was perfect for us. We would start off on a long downhill, and let me tell you, monkeys on skis are much faster than they are on foot. I was in greyhound mode to keep up, you know- all four paws off the ground with my race face on. Luckily, on the uphills my monkey slowed down enough for me to catch up and walk a little. Then it would be another downhill gallop! Then an uphill, then a downhill, then an uphill, ...
I was pooped after those morning skis, right after my breakfast I crawled under my blanket and slept like a puppy...
One morning, it was windy, snowing and cold and I grew an icy beard and mustaches. It was so cool! In fact it was so cool, it was colder than a polar bear's nose. I wish I had a picture, but my monkey forget the charger for the camera.
I have to admit, my fur is not ideal for winter use. I know that is hard to believe, but it is true. Unlike all you doggers built for northern climes (i.e. that means you Shika! See you in the park this evening around 5:30?), I had to put on my winter jacket and vest before going out. I may as well have designed my own special dogger snowsuit! And ear warmers, don't even mention cold ears to me! And cold feet, running in the snow makes for cold feet too...
I also went walking on snowshoe trails every day. All around the mountain there are snowshoe trails. The coolest thing (notice the cold theme?), was my realization that these funny dents I saw in the snow were made by rabbit feet! When you sniff them carefully, it is so obvious! And they are everywhere! I wonder if the rabbits from Jericho followed me here?
I tried following the rabbit prints a few times, but those rabbits must know more about walking on snow than me 'cause I kept sinking in up to my ears! It was so hard to follow them... I'll need to refine my winter rabbit tracking skills.
That's about all. My monkey is off work for a few days so we'll be doing all sorts of fun things together. Maybe we'll go walk around Buntzen Lake or up Hollyburn Ridge! Or maybe down to Iona Spit! I'm so excited!
