Dear JJ: I have finally found my true calling, I AM A HUNTING DOG!! This morning my pack guy, (I’ll call him by his people name, Ian) got Ecco and me out of bed very very early. Ok, I thought this a repeat of yesterday when my pack lady, Kathryn, got up before 5:00 a.m. because she had to go “racing”. When I politely reminded her that as she was up it was time to feed me breakfast, she told me to go back to bed. So I jumped on the bed and slept on her side of the bed until Ian got up.
Today, I thought, this whole early morning thing is getting a bit boring, but was I ever wrong!! Ian got all dressed up in weird clothes and then he took us both out to the truck. Ecco and I don’t get to ride in the truck very often and we like it a lot. I get to sit in the backseat and tell Ian how to drive, he doesn’t always listen to me, but that hasn’t stopped me trying to tell him where to go. This morning, we picked up Ian’s friend, Richard and then we drove up and up and up into the mountains. When we finally stopped and they let us out of the truck the world was all frosty, crunchy and smelled so different from our vineyard at home. Ecco and I had so much fun running through the bush and “hunting”. Finally Ian got his gun thing out of the truck and pointed it at a big tree. Then “Bang” and a grouse fell right out of the tree. Then Ian and Richard got all excited and kept telling me to find the bird. Well, honestly, if they couldn’t tell where that bird fall out of the tree, they don’t deserve to have noses. They kept circling and circling around the bird and kept calling to me to find it. Well, eventually I decided that if they didn’t want it I might as well eat it. After all, I don’t do deliveries. Well, then they got all excited and told me to drop the bird. People, they just can’t make up their minds. Well, then we ran around for a while longer and I found the best mud ever in a swamp. I got covered in mud all the way up to my tummy. It was great!
I was so happy and excited to be hunting that I didn’t even want to eat the crunchies that Ian had brought for me. Richard gave Ecco and me some of his hot dog and it was yummy. Still by the time Kathryn got home from the “spa” that night I was feeling a bit hungry. She made up for not feeding me breakfast yesterday morning by giving me an early dinner and giving me EXTRA food! Now my tummy is full and I think I’ll lie down for a bit of a nap. Got to keep my nose on Kathryn though as she’s making the people dinner, and I think that she’s putting cheese in it. She’s pretty sloppy with the cheese and some of it always lands in my dish.
It was a very happy day today!
