Run JJ, run!

Hiya Doggers,

One of the blogger doggers out there, Captain was asking about learning to run but I can't figure out how to get my comments to stick.

Sort of like peeing off a cliff, no evidence to sniff at...

My monkey started me on a walk run program when I was 6 months old. We walked for five minutes then ran for one minute and did this for 30 minutes. We did this 3 x week for a month. Then, we added one minute of running, so five minutes walking and two minutes running. I could run for way longer but my monkey was looking pretty tired, so I thought it best we walk. After all that is the hand that feeds me- I had venison from breakfast this morning and I even ate some of Duke's breakfast too. He eats slowly and stands up tall to chew- that's when I sneak in without him knowing ;-)

i know now jj. i thought i had less for breaky today and was wondering what was up

Ahem. So back to walk running. We kept adding on one minute of running until we got to five minutes of walking and fifteen minutes of running. At the same time we increased the distance we ran by 5% or five minutes each week, with one walk run being 50% longer than the other two after the first four weeks. Just like my monkey does with my triathlon group! I'm an athlete too ~: ~: ~:

I only run on soft ground, dirt roads or trails mostly. Apparently sidewalks are very bad for osteo arthritis- osteo; that's something with bones. I like bones, I wish I had one right now to munch on...

mmmmm bone

Where was I... Ok, every fourth week is an easy week where we do a lot less. And in the winters when it is dark and cold and raining a lot we run less too. But snowshoe more! I love snowshoeing and playing in the snow. I even went cross-countru skiing once and loved it. My monkey was way fast going down hills, but way slow going up hills so I could keep up no problems.

After we go to five min walk and fifteen min run, we then started taking off one minute of walking; four minute walk and fifteen minute run, then three, two and one. So by the time I was just over 2 years old I was running and running and running. I can easily run for up to two hours on any give day, except if I ran two hours the day before...

I even do faster running on a stupid round thing called a "track". Its so easy to keep up and go faster, but the monkeys always run the long way and don't cut across the middle...

I still went to the park pretty much every day to play with other doggers, its not like I am Forrest Gump or anything.

JJ - That's a great running program. Our mom takes us for bicycle jogs. She has a "Springer" hooked to her bike. She hardly has to pedel because we run so fast but she still complains .... something about us wearing out her brakes.
